The first Labor Day parade was held in New York City in 1882. The  purpose of the event was to show support for the 8-hour work day. 

During the 19th century, many people were working 60-hour work weeks for very little pay.

Many people were forced to live in poverty, even if they were working. This was a major problem for the U.S.

Many people travel to the beach or visit their families, while others just stay at home and do whatever they like 

Labor Day is also an occasion for many people to reflect on the  importance of work and workers in society. People can use this time to  consider what work means to them.
