Real Madrid defeated Celta Vigo 1-0 away from home on Saturday to maintain their perfect start to the La Liga season. The only goal of the game came from Karim Benzema in the 48th minute.
Real Madrid dominated possession for most of the game, but they struggled to create clear-cut chances in the first half. Celta Vigo defended well and they created a few chances of their own, but they were unable to find the back of the net.
Benzema broke the deadlock in the second half with a brilliant individual goal. He received the ball on the edge of the penalty area and he cut inside before firing a low shot into the bottom corner.
Real Madrid held on for the win to move top of the La Liga table. They have now won their opening three games of the season, scoring 10 goals and conceding none.
Karim Benzema was the star of the show for Real Madrid. He scored the only goal of the game and he was a constant threat throughout the match. Benzema is in the form of his life and he is one of the leading contenders for the Ballon d'Or this year.
Celta Vigo deserve credit for their defensive performance. They were up against a strong Real Madrid side and they defended with great discipline. Celta Vigo will be disappointed not to have taken anything from the game, but they can take heart from their performance.
Real Madrid will be looking to continue their winning start to the season when they host Rayo Vallecano next weekend. Celta Vigo will be hoping to bounce back from their defeat when they travel to face Real Betis.
